Industrial designer from Tokyo
Naoto Fukasawa is a Japanese industrial designer, born in 1956. After graduating from his studies, he worked for Seiko a few years before setting up the design studio of IDEO in Tokyo and establishing his own company “Naoto Fukasawa Design” in 2003. Fukasawa’s work captivates with its minimalism, by which he expresses the unapparent values inherent in an object. Representative for his design are his works for the Japanese lifestyle department store chain Muji: the CD player designed for Muji as well as the mobile phones “Infobar” and “neon” were included into the permanent collection of MoMA New York. Since the establishment of his studio, he was especially successful with his works for B&B Italia, Artemide, Muji and Maruni. Fukasawa has authored several books on design and teaches at Tama Art University. He has received more than 50 international awards, among others the American IDEA Gold Award, the British D&AD Gold Award, and the German Red Dot Award.
